Creative Expressions

Hi Everyone

Today sees the start of a new month of Dt projects for me over at Creative Expressions towers and we have been given some gorgeous stamps this month  with really lovely words. I jumped straight in with some rich Autumn colours and gorgeous papers that I had on a previous show and teamed it with organic burlap and a chalk board style effect using 3 separate mediums to build to the desired effect. I love these colours for richness and of course using one of our Sue's dies never hurts on a project hey.

I decided to leave off the ribbon and use burlap and the Couture Creations Sew Jo paper pad to add the pop of colour and prettiness without going too girly and I think this card could very well be unisex.

So here is today's project  my lovlies, what do you think?

I really enjoyed putting this together for you to look at today, right up my street.

Ok so to start I chose one of the double sided 12x12 papers from the Sew Jo pad and it happened to be that I wanted both sides of the paper , one side had the measuring tapes and the other the stripes and I still had plenty over for another card from the one piece I pulled out.
Then I took some card out to match in Chestnut Brown and Taupe, I also took a little piece of black for the stamped image.

Here is the lovely 'Filigree frame' and Sue's gorgeous 'Faux Quilled leaf die.'
I cut out two taupe leaves and stamped my Image using the ink and embossing powder below.
Snow cap Pigment ink and True white embossing powder from Creative expressions.
Here is a close up so you can see the Focal point. I stamped it with Snow cap and quickly added my True white embossing powder and heat set, I then took a white pen and drew around some of the swirls to give a little depth to the image with a little shadowing, rather than leave it flat white.
I added a thin piece of the stripey paper to the top of the words and the bottom just to pull the writing forward without cutting it out.
I took another piece of the stripey paper and added some burlap that I frayed to the left side and a small measure to the right side, I distressed the edges and inked them all using Vintage photo Distress ink.I added foam to the back of the stamped image and mounted that on to the burlap striped piece which i kept at a jaunty angle.
Next I took a piece of chestnut card and distressed the edges and inked of course, I mounted that onto a piece of taupe card and kept those edges straight. I cut 2 small pieces of the measure paper for the right side and a large piece with a tear in the ruler to open and reveal a little clock with hands which ran along the bottom, which I inked and added with cosmic shimmer glue.I added foam  to the back and mounted it onto a  straight edged mat which I had pierced on the edges and added to a chestnut layer, then finally a double taupe layer with foam in between to give it height and dimension.
I took some burlap in natural light colour and added a fabric stiffener to a Small piece and once dried I cut out some flowers , I then added the faux quilled leaves and interlocked them together on the card, I also cut a couple of the leaves that over lapped off and added them in a different part of the flower I was building. I took a couple of small pieces of green wire and wrapped it around a paintbrush handle to give me two little springy pieces to add to the flower and the centre is of course one of Creative expressions Vintage flat back embellishments which I love.
I had a little key with dream written on it so I snapped off the bottom part and glued that above the flower tucked into the focal image. I also took two of Mr Holts's Adage tickets and added them to balance the top right of my card.
I slid a Little clock face and a small hand under the paper measure I added at the bottom of the card for a little fun and curled the paper back and inked it, drying it into place.
lastly I added a few little pearls coloured with alcohol ink mixative as the finishing touch.

My little rip in the paper with the clock etc, it is so nice to do little things that make you look for quirks in the card , I just think it make s it so much more interesting for the person viewing it.
This is the other side so you can see the many different layers and little mats that all work together to add interest without competing and clashing.

The finished card again.

So what do you all think of this one?  I love the warmth of it with its browns etc, but this is as close as I come to enjoying cold weather haha...

So since yesterday unfortunately my shows on the 8th  and the 20th have been cancelled by Ideal again , I can't tell you how disappointed I am my friends , I truly was looking forward so much to bringing you some fun and techniques as I know you all enjoy that . I hope to have some news for you about when it will be moved too very very soon  as I also had a demo day I was going to do in Kimbolton on the 11th too which is also cancelled. 6. Dear Kim, gutted that your shows have been cancelled. Ideal can be a bit naughty sometimes! Hopefully it wont be long til they re-book you! They must know how much we love your shows by the number of sell-outs and emails. But back to the card, I love the way you put so much attention and detail into your cards. I particularly love the little clock tucked in a rip at the bottom. Might have to pinch that idea! I think it could be a unisex card. Love to everyone Sarah

  7. Sorry, me again!! What's your email address so that I can send you my address as you were going to tell me where I can find the vintage card? Thank you for being willing to help me find it online as I can't get out much and Cornwall doesn't have many craft shops!! Love Sarah

  13. Hi Kim, love the card especially the effect of the white embossing and the burlap flower. Really disappointed your shows have been cancelled. I haven't had much time for crafting through September and I've been out in the garden today trying to tidy up before it rains tomorrow, but am hoping to get my granddaughters birthday card finished this weekend and even do a bit of blogging over the next couple of weeks.
