Visible Image Sunday.

Hi all my Lovelies.
A very good morning to you all and I hope you have been having a very good weekend. Did you all get lots of crafting done? what project are you working on right now? Does anyone need any help with anything today. ? Any crafty questions?.

I have of course been using my gorgeous and amazing Visible Image stamps today and I thought I'd do a masculine card today as we mustn't leave the fellas out hey girls, well not all the time anyway hehe.

I am loving the corrugated card look lately and managed to snaggle ( is that a word? I like it , it is now in my vocab guys) so I managed to snaggle a left over from the last card on the blog, just a tiny piece and used it in place of a girly ribbon for this more manly of cards.

Another angle so you can see the glaze on the main image and some of the embellishments.

  • I took a piece of black card and mounted it onto white.I the took a piece of grey and drew faux stitching in a runner style stitch around it.I added this to the card too.
  • I took my small strip of corrugated card and added it over the left edge of the grey card down the length of the card.
  • I used some brown archival in and stamped the sentiment onto some white card and cut into a v one end and a tag shape the other, which was mounted onto black, I cut out this by hand leaving just a very thin matt showing, I used a little vintage photo distress to edge the white card too.
  • I stamped out my Men's  collage in the same  Sepia brown and fussy cut by hand the image I used vintage photo and faded jeans distress Inks on this piece. Once it was dry I apply a versamark pen to the pocket watch and parts of the car and embossed with clear powder, I did a couple of layers for a nice shiny smooth finish.I matted this piece onto black and again fussy cut by hand. I added foam to the back and set aside.
  • The next piece was on white card ad I took The Bronte script stamp and used versamark ink and clear embossing powder to create some script randomly on the page just in a few areas.
  • Then I used first faded jeans Distress and the grunge dots background stamp to add some pattern onto the card along the bottom. I wiped the stamp and switched to dried Marigold and a little rusty hinge on the edges and used the dots at the top of the card.
  • I took a pair of scissors and distressed all the edges of the card and then started to ink the card ad over the embossing and pattern.
  • You all now know my method to inking, side side middle one  colour and side side middle the other colour. this time I used dried marigold and faded jeans with a little rusty hinge and chipped sapphire on the edge and lastly for inks I used some walnut stain on the very edges and rubbed into the torn edge. I knew I wanted to curl one corner so  rubbed some chipped sapphire under one edge and rolled it up whist damp with the ink and it dries stiffly then.
  • I added foam under this piece and added it on a jaunty angle to the card base made earlier.
  • I added the car collage on top of this.Tucking the sentiment under it as I adhered it.
  • lastly just to dress the card with a few embellishments and I chose very masculine metal pieces for this one.
Here are some close up pictures.

Here you can see the stitching and the popper in metal added to the corner.
 Another view.
This one shows the shine on the Embossing really well.
 The colours show here.
I hope you liked this male card today, I definitely think it is one of those that people shy away from as they aren't so easy to do, as we think we can't add flowers and ribbons etc but most guys like some sort of flower or garden I think , what do you think ladies?

Here are the brilliant and very deep etched stamps I used today.

                              Bronte Script.                                       Grunge Polka dots

Men's Collage                                             No matter your age.

I wanted to mention that we have a challenge every month at Visible Image and all you have to do is use at least one Visible Image stamp on your project take a piccy and post it on the Visible Image blog here. You will then have to wait til the end of that month and someone will win a £20 voucher to spend on Visible Image stamps which are extremely affordable and very good quality. Well worth a little bit of fun and stamping I think, Only rules are no digi's and at least one Visible Image stamp. excellent hey.
They also have a private group on facebook with lots of lovely friendly people where you see lots of
daily inspiration from the design team plus we go on most days to chat to you all. You can also post your cards you made using Visible Image stamps too. So I have also left a link here if you fancy coming and joining just for a chat. If you do come and join here.

So I hope you have a brilliant Sunday and you can come and leave me a comment , it is so lovely seeing the same and new faces come and leave me messages on here , I will always try to answer your comments as it is lovely to acknowledge you all for being here.

I have a birthday coming up on the 26th so that week I will again be doing another competition so You will need to be a member of the blog and leave me a comment on that post and I will have some gorgeous things to come out to you, Including spellbinders etc so definitely worthwhile entering so tell all your friends to come and join and we will have a fun week, of course ending with my first solo show which I am preparing for now so hope you will join me on the 30th for that.

Big hugs to all

love

  1. Hi Kim, I really love today's Card I always struggle with Men's Cards in fact I've a confession to make I always purchase Men's Cards as I feel I can't get them right only time I ever purchase Cards these days, I love your use of of Distress inks I'm still a little nervous about being too heavy with the Darker Colours, I love the close up photographs they show all the detail very clearly, and I love how you breakdown step by step how you achieved your Card, today I'm making a Birthday Card using Heartfelt Creations Sun Kissed Fleur Swirls it stamps beautiful and the smaller of the two stamps I'm going to incorporate into my background. Have a great day love and hugs from Sam x

  4. Morning Kim, This card is magnificent !! I have to make a card for my hubby's birthday on Valentine's Day, and this has definitely given me inspiration, I think I will be trying this one. I love the colours, you always have the knack of 'marrying' perfect colours together, I love the stamping and glossing, and the sentiment is perfect. The corrugated card gives a beautiful earthiness to the card, I have taken to saving lots of cardboard for stripping back, and it was Hels who advised me to try my cat's food boxes as I was having trouble stripping off the top layers haha. This border looks like proper corrugated card, where do you get that from ? or do you have a corrugating tool, as I would love to corrugate my own card, ideal if you want a 'clean' look rather than a 'grunge' look.
I'm partway through making a 50th Wedding Anniversary card at present for the beginning of Feb, then I will be making my hubby's card, hopefully it will turn out similar to yours here haha, then a friend's birthday on 15th Feb, I'm hoping to do the Taylored Expressions card you demo'd on C&C for her as I loved it so much. Well, that's the plan anyway haha !!
We have a very, very, very, thick frost this morning, lets hope it kills off all the virus's and all the bugs that are doing the rounds.
Have a lovely day, I am full of a head cold at the moment, so won't be going to Church today.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

    2. Hi again, Kim, When I had posted on your Blog this morning, I went immediately to Visible Image and ordered all the stamps you used haha, I will never have any money haha. My hubby has always been annoyed that on his Birthday, everyone else gets a card haha !! his Auntie's birthday was on the same day too, amazing isn't it.
Thank you for trying to source some of the corrugated cardboard, much appreciated.
I would love to show you my cards, when I finish them, if only I could get to grips with getting the piccies onto my laptop !!!

    3. Ahhh bless you, they are such nice quality and I warn you you will be hooked haha. If you needhelp getting pictures onto the computer just say , have you a digital camera or a phone with a camera or even a webcam, any of those will allow you to add your pictures to a file. I also use something called picassa to crop the photos down so you get a good image to see etc and I downloaded that from google for free. I am same as you I will never be rich there is always something to buy haha.
I hope you enjoy your new stamps, Helen posts them very quickly so I know you will have them in the next couple of days.
      Good stuff

    4. Hi Kim, Thank you, I have a digital camera, and a phone with a camera. My hubby has tried showing me with the camera, but because he knows what he is doing it is too fast for me, have tried to get him to slow down, but it seems so complicated and he is always busy, that I haven't bothered again haha.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

    1. Hi Mrs B.
Thanks so much. I appreciate you noticing the textures , I do think mens cards need that as they lack the frou frou elements feminine cards have. I hope Patricia's head cold goes too. Hugs

  7. Hi Kim,
It's a stunner of a male card - Love everything about it. And with a flower or two (only little ones) would also make a fantastic female card. My friends don't like girlie and I love flowers and butterflies etc but not necessarily girlie.
Have a great Sunday - starting to craft now.

    1. Hi susan. Happy Sunday to you. Thanks for the comment as always and not many find mens cards easy but I enjoy a challenge and I think it is easier with certain stamps to do the masculine and these ones are fab.

  9. Hi Kim
Brilliant card, men's cards can be so difficult, once again I love your coloured backgrounds. Can you explain how you go about doing several layers of heat embossing? I thought you stamped and then embossed and that was it but then as I told you before I'm a newbie!!
    Best wishes, Pat

    1. Hi Pat
Nice to see you again. No there is never a limit to what you do on backgrounds, I think i saw a stamp once that aptly said, your only limit is your imagination haha. I often as on this card will think in my head roughly what colour I want to be prominant on the background, and white will always show well. You can do it by adding it onto of other embossing or you can do it as the very first thing by embossing onto white card with clear i ink as i did on this one. Then adding layer sof colour or more embossing , you can do it you just have to realise you will remelt the first embossing if you spend too long on it so either avoid the area or heat it in short bursts or you might like the mottled look, sometimes it looks really cool. Over the coming weeks and my shows on C&C I will go through all these things and do some tricky things as well and things that people think are very difficult but arent when you know how. I am here to help and we were all newbies and we never stop learning anything in life so its a good thing.
      Kind regards

    1. Hi crafty B.
Of course sorry I usually put on the measurements and i must have forgotten , The finished card is 6 and a half by 6 and 3/4 so not a massive card ( mine usually are all big lol by the time I finish adding more mats haha. Hope this helps. Big hugs Kim xxx

  11. WOW Kim what a brilliant card, I find doing cards for men the most difficult cards ever, cars, sport, profession, but hopefully you will help open our eyes to think out of the box, I have enough trouble thinking wether Im inside or outside the box full stop ! I looked at the website thinking it would all be grunge etc but how suprised was I ? Very ! There are some beautiful stamps, from the stamps you have shown, to beautiful celebration stamps and all very reasonably priced too, so thanks for giving me other options to explore Kim.
Im really looking forward to your next show Kim, Im sure we will learn so much from you.
I have just one question for you, what colour blue did you use for this card, as Im starting to build up Foundation card that I like in the colours I see on your blog and Sue's blog as I find when I look on the CE site or Joanna Sheenes shop the colours dont always look the same so Im letting you and Sue be my guide by showing me just how pretty certain colours are so I can order them.
Patricia I hope that nasty head cold gets better soon, they are nasty mcfasty things.
Well, I need to start 'snaggling' things to use on my future projects although I do snaggle bits n bobs off cards I receive (providing they dont look - dare I say cheep or nasty) call me a craft snob if you like : ) !!
    Thats me done. Bedtime.
    Hugs to all.

  12. ooh! I love the steampunk touch on this one with the cogs. I thought if you didn't put flouncy things and extra bits on a card it would look abit boring but this looks really neat and crisp with the simple border and its still really visually interesting coz of all the colours and stamp layering. So, yeah think this ones really nifty :)
